Why did the ‘national’ media suddenly wake up to Chennai rains today?

We are not complaining, and we are happy that the national media, especially the TV news channels are now focusing on the flood situation in Chennai and other areas of Tamil Nadu.

But these channels appeared totally oblivious of the fact that people of Chennai have been facing this tragedy for more than a week. Till last night, if one watched TV news, it appeared as if there was no problem in Chennai. This morning’s newspapers in Delhi and Mumbai too had nearly no prominent news about Chennai on the front pages.

But things have, thank god, changed. What do you think caused this sudden change in heart? What does your analysis say? You are welcome to comment here, and if you’ve gathered your thoughts well, you’re welcome to write an article on “My Voice“.

There was a time when when “news” used to come from News Channels or so called MSM. It’s a different story now. MSM picks up news from social media and there are many example of that. I think it’s a power that general public needs to realize. Do not let them set the agenda for debates. We should set it for them.

Basically, No absurd comments from Central Ministers/MPs. Against Opposition expectations, Govt has taken up the discussion against Tolerance. Prime Minister is actively participating in session. Govt is on their toes. So, MSM had no spicy story for a day or two.
